The Odex Saga
In case you haven't been following the Odex saga, I'll give you a short summary. Odex, a local distributor of anime, started suing local people who were infringing on copyrighted materials, in this case would be Japanese anime.
It turned out to be a big PR disaster and now, the popular online discussion forum, Sgcafe, even has a dedicated thread named "The Odex Saga". Over hundreds of topics have been discussed so far. There's bad vibe all over this.
My views on this? They are a business entity, they should focus on their core business model and shouldn't be distracted by online piracy. Online piracy is just another competitor. Find ways to win people back. If you don't get people to feel good, how would they be your customers? People just dislike lawsuits, regardless of nature.
And it's always a good thing to have a backup plan if the whole event turns out to be a PR disaster. But make sure that there's a good PR team in the first place.
