Old School Symbols and Frames for Newspapers

I found some old goodies in the office.

Ever wonder how artists create symbols and frames back in the good old days where computers weren't in the mainstream?

They use paper cutouts.













I think halftone papers are still available for sale today since I see the technique in comics. Unless of course, they are electronic halftone patterns created in Photoshop.
